Seg\u00fan el portal Ship and Bunker, el acuerdo se produjo en la 13\u00aa sesi\u00f3n del subcomit\u00e9 de Prevenci\u00f3n y Lucha contra la Contaminaci\u00f3n (PPR 13), celebrada en Londres del 9 al 13 de febrero.<\/p><p>Las revisiones incluyen m\u00e9todos de balance de hidr\u00f3geno y ox\u00edgeno, adem\u00e1s del de carbono, para poder calcular y verificar consumos y emisiones de forma m\u00e1s fiable cuando se emplean combustibles marinos alternativos. Estas enmiendas buscan facilitar, una vez sean adoptadas formalmente, la certificaci\u00f3n de motores que empleen combustibles como el amoniaco y el hidr\u00f3geno. Con esta modificaci\u00f3n, la OMI pretende dar apoyo regulatorio a proyectos de propulsi\u00f3n que utilicen combustibles alternativos, tanto para armadores como para fabricantes.<\/p><p>En cuanto al calendario, el paquete acordado en el PPR se remitir\u00e1 al comit\u00e9 de Protecci\u00f3n del Medio Marino (MEPC) para su consideraci\u00f3n en la 84\u00aa sesi\u00f3n, que se celebrar\u00e1 en abril. Las enmiendas, seg\u00fan la misma fuente, se esperan adoptar en la reuni\u00f3n del MEPC 85, prevista para noviembre de 2026. Adem\u00e1s del trabajo sobre certificaci\u00f3n de motores, el PPR discuti\u00f3 otras cuestiones ambientales. Entre ellas, el desarrollo de un concepto de \u2018combustible polar\u2019, orientado a reducir las emisiones de carbono negro en el \u00c1rtico. Se identific\u00f3 un posible est\u00e1ndar como primer paso y se invit\u00f3 a presentar nuevas propuestas para la siguiente sesi\u00f3n prevista en 2027.<\/p><p>Tambi\u00e9n se revis\u00f3 el trabajo inicial sobre la gesti\u00f3n de efluentes de amoniaco procedentes de buques que utilicen este combustible.
